Tonight, I am looking over my analytics and I am looking at the pages that are getting the most traction on my website and social media sites and it really comes back to the fact that after a little break away from content marketing, I need to make it more of a priority.
Over the past few months I have really cut back on the amount of time I spend on social media as well as content writing. I think I needed to stop writing to see the real value of how content fits into the whole picture.
Today, I am in the middle of a website redesign. It is imperative to not only create content but display it in a way which is appealing to the eye, easy to read and offers VALUE to clients. I know that is a worn-out phrase, but truthfully there is way too much information being shared these days and most of it is junk.
My objectives over the next few months are the following:
On topics affecting specific clients,
Content that tells a great story,
That is simple,
That people want to share,
Stop worrying about:
Writing for google, (what does that look like anyway?)
Trying to make content creation a daily event, (regular writing is key, but daily can be too much
Looking only at website analytics, look at social media platforms too. (People, in general are not going to websites on a regular basis
Content marketing going away, it is here and it has a long shelf life
Start looking more at:
The big picture of website design
The reader experience – what do people want
Looking at ways to make content come more alive
When I looked closer at last year’s content on our blog site and website, it became apparent to me that content is a driving force of inbound marketing. Today, people want answers to their questions and they need to be able to find these answers quickly with a minimum number of clicks.
When looking at a better website experience, content is the key. I am working on creating more actionable content. It is not enough to explain and teach. I am seeing a huge value in directing people to take more action after they read an article. (This is where I am spending my time).
With respect to social media, the best value I can add is content from my experience. Sharing comments on other people’s articles is important, but ultimately the best sharing is from one person’s experience and perspective. Too often, I see people sharing content without any comments because of the “status” of that particular writer. That’s one option, but I guess I want more if I am going to spend any time on social media.
Back to the writing book for me. Time to start listening more and writing articles that make a difference.
